Great Dane Trailers

My second internship was at Great Dane LLC from March to August 2024. I was a Manufacturing Engineering Intern where I:

Designed machine safety guarding and drill templates
Designed various manufacturing tools for the assembly line
Modeled jigs and templates in SolidWorks
Created BOMs and Engineering Drawings for parts fabrication

Safety Guarding

I designed better safety guarding for a punch and a roll forming machine. Both of these machines had some guarding but it needed improving and more guarding needed to be added meet current OSHA standards.

Modeling the Roof Lining Jig

Another thing I did was create SolidWorks models of jigs already on our production floor. This facility is 30 years old so lots of the jigs still in use were built before the age of computer modeling. However, when the Manufacturing Engineers want to make improvements we need CAD models now. As the intern, it was my job to measure the equipment on the floor and make those models in SolidWorks.

Modeling the Rotating Catwalk

This time I was asked to model a catwalk with a rotating platform. We were looking to get it rebuild and add a pneumatic actuator cylinder so it needed to be accurate for giving to contractors to quote.
